Samo Burja spoke on 6/9/2024 at manifest about returning to patron sponsored science rather than government funding. It sounds great. This is about whether an extended version where there are figures like "individual find managers" who coordinate the money from smaller contributord from the public either one time or ongoing.

This market is about whether any 2023 or 2024 speaker (invited or voluntary) runs such an org by end date, such that it's reasonable to believe that at least 300k USD has been received, and that at least ten researchers or scientists have received significant funding.

The organizer must be a single figurehead ie "Samo's glorious science research" or "Razib's Grad Student Army" . It can't be a group effort although multiple people can help in the background as long as there is a single lead.
