On February 6th, 2023, Google announced Bard, a competitor to Microsoft's new OpenAI-powered search engine Bing.

Microsoft is ahead of the curve. One area where Goole could compete is by allowing users to embed all their emails and documents into Bard, making it a powerful all-purpose search engine.

Will this happen?

It's not sure when Bard will be released, so I have set the date to 2025.
Let me know in the comments if another date/method would make more sense.

[Edit for clarity]

When I say "embed", I mean that bard would process all email and documents ans allow queries like "List all my interactions with NAME in the past year and draft a follow up email" or "Summarize the proposal document I redacted yesterday".

https://blog.google/products/bard/google-bard-new-features-update-sept-2023/ shows "finding your emails" then "assessing your emails". This is more restricted than the original vision "bard would process all email and documents" and would not allow such powerful queries. Context limits will affect queries like "List all my interactions with NAME".

Predicting no because personalized Bard would be very expensive given current methods and the downside risk for screwing things up with your private docs is large. It's also very hard organizationally for Google to move quickly on anything like this because you need to be so careful with potentially deeply personal data.
