These are the five FAANG stock companies - (F)acebook/Meta, (A)mazon, (A)pple, (N)etflix, (G)oogle/Alphabet. Performance will only be measured by stocks’ growth or regression from each stocks’ close according to CNBC on their final trading day of 2023. Please let me know if this data is incorrect as of 12/29/2023:

META - $353.96

AAPL - $192.53

AMZN - $151.94

NFLX - $486.88

GOOGL - $139.69

Performance won’t be by who ends with highest stock price but whose price experiences individual growth following close of trading 12/31/2024. Happy to elaborate if there is any confusion. I will not add “Other” response; it will be the winner among these five. Will build markets for other industries/other competitive pools.

This update just made me realize I have a lot of MO on my plate, but I'm not going to let any FOMO compel me to do anything silly this close to the end of the year. But good lord, all you tech investors... cheers.

Well, damn. The actual stock market doesn't close until 4 pm on New Year's Eve. And I will be at a wedding that day! Then that rolls right into a road trip.

I will try and resolve the night of New Year's Day once I compile all the data. Thanks for participating, everyone!

sold Ṁ0 Netflix (NFLX) YES

@LBeesley I see NFLX ahead now. Neck to neck!

@deagol I’m sorry I haven’t updated this in a while. Been busy with my son and with work. Will review everything this weekend so that everything is on the up for reporting as we head into the final month of the calendar year

sold Ṁ9 Facebook/Meta (META) YES

@LBeesley decent lead by NFLX now

Quarterly-ish update:

YTD changes as of close 9/10:

META - $504.79 (+45.77% YTD)
AAPL - $221.04 (+18.57% YTD)
AMZN - $179.55 (+19.76% YTD)
NFLX - $673.62 (+43.78% YTD)
GOOGL - $148.66 (+7.59% YTD)

Netflix is running pretty closely with Facemeta, and Alphabet has dipped from what I can only assume is fallout from an antitrust case.

@LBeesley Can you please check your formulas? I get different growth numbers (some worryingly significant), using the starting point of close of Dec 29 last year, stock prices as stated in description and confirmed to be correct. I did notice in your previous comment "based on change from open 1/2/2024" but can't say if that explains the differences I'm getting.

META +42.61%

AAPL +14.33%

AMZN +18.17%

NFLX +38.35%

GOOGL +6.42%

Those as of 9/10 matching the prices in your comment except for AAPL for which I see $220.11, but all a bit higher now.

@deagol I will check when I get home. I’m currently working away from my usual workstation because of the tropical storm in the area

@LBeesley can you check and share the historical and current growth values you have, just to be sure? it's getting really tight and I want to make sure we're on the same page. Thanks!

I'm doing YTDs for each of these competitive stonks market questions because I'll forget by the end of June for full midyear updates. Do what you will with the following information.

YTD changes as of close 5/23 (based on change from open 1/2/2024):

META - $465.78 (+34.51% YTD)
AAPL - $186.88 (-2.11% YTD)
AMZN - $181.05 (+20.76% YTD)
NFLX - $635.67 (+35.68% YTD)
GOOGL - $173.55 (+25.61% YTD)

Starting prices look correct, all match nasdaq's data https://www.nasdaq.com/market-activity/stocks/meta/historical

@MingweiSamuel Thank you. I knew I had to get these questions going before opening bell 1/2, because it would be harder to track year-long progress if the starting prices weren’t static for the 250 or so trading days ahead of us.
